The August Nights are “appetizing”, on the magnificent terrace of the National Archaeological Museum of Reggio Calabria with its special view of the Strait, for special openings on Thursday and Saturday, from 8.00 pm to 11.00 pm, with a special ticket for 3 EUR only.
In collaboration with the Calabria-Spain Association, on Thursday, August 8th, starting at 8.30 pm, on the terrace, will be held the Symposium “The Anona of Reggio Calabria: from the Andes via Andalusia”.
Speakers: the historian Pasquale Amato, professor at the University for Foreigners “Dante Alighieri” of Reggio Calabria and head of the History Section of the International Center of Writers of Calabria, on “The journey of the magical fruit of the Incas from the Andes to Reggio passing through the ‘Andalusia’, and the president of the Anonetus of the Straits Francesco Crispo, on “The exceptional properties of the fruit and its potential in the territory of Reggio Metropolitan City”.
They will bring greetings: the director of the MArRC Carmelo Malacrino, the president of the Calabria-Spain Association Rosa Fontana, the president of Impresa Ligoni Diego Latella.
“In the same area where the Bergamot of Reggio Calabria, that is the ‘world citrus prince’, magnificently grows, a tree that comes from far away, from the Andes, between Peru and Ecuador, has wonderfully taken root, after having passed through Spain, Granada and Malaga, and that gives a very sweet fruit: the Anona cherimoya, popularly called Annona”, professor Amato explains. “The great people of the Incas considered it as a gift from the Gods. In Italy, it has taken hold only in the Reggio territory”.
At the end of the evening, a tasting of Sorbetto at the Anona of Reggio Calabria and sweets with Bergamot from Reggio Calabria will be offered, in collaboration with the Artisan Pastry of Reggio Association.
