Free admission at the MArRC for the Regional Day of the Museums of Calabria

The network of museums and cultural places of Calabria is like a splendid mosaic, made up of the tesserae of a fascinating history in the heart of the Mediterranean of contamination and fertilization between peoples and traditions. The Regional Councilorship for Education and Cultural Activities has promoted a Regional Day of the Museums of Calabria, which celebrates its first edition on Saturday, November 24th instaed to tell the extraordinary richness of this cultural heritage. The slogan is “Do you know what you’re missing?”.

The MArRC partecipates ate the inziative by the promotion of free admission for all the day and with a rich program of themed tours, for a journey through time to the roots of the Calabrian cultural identity, under the title “Lights of Magna Graecia”.   

The theme of light is the red thread for the rich program of activities.


In the morning – at 10.00, 10.40 and 11.20 am– the students of the “Alessandro Volta” Sports Scientific High School will accompany the guests to the discovery of the magical world of the Olympic Games, through the exhibition “The Flame that units. The Olympic Torches, from Berlin 1936 to Rio de Janeiro 2016″ by the Italian National Olympic Committee, in the space of place Paolo Orsi. The Olympic torch “lit” a time of peace in ancient Greece and it is until nowdays a symbol of universal values of commitment to a common goal, of friendship, of beauty, of harmony.

In the afternoonat 4.00 pm and 6.00 pmspecialized guides made available by the Kore company, the concession holder of additional services, will lead visitors on an extraordinary journey of knowledge of the habits, beliefs and emotions in the experience of the Western Greeks. The unmissable stages of this exceptional journey through history will be the testimonies of the myth of Persephone, with many related themes in a dialectic form (day and night, spring and autumn, life and death, love and pain), the majestic Riace Bronzes and the fascinating bronzes of Porticello. The visit will end in palce Paolo Orsi, with the exhibition “Fiat Lux. Lighting between Antiquity and the Middle Ages”, curated by the director Carmelo Malacrino. Over seventy artifacts, mostly oil lamps, will “light up” with their beauty the knowledge of the houses, roads, shrines and lupans of the peoples who have preceded us and on the cultural heritage that they have transmitted to us.
