November in blue at the MArRC, together with the Riace Bronzes
The magnificent Riace Bronzes, sculptural masterpieces from the 5th century BC. and model of male body perfection, are the testimonials of the national awareness campaign on prostate cancer and male health “November in blue”, promoted by the Europa Uomo association by the slogan: “Shed light on you”. The initiative has the patronage of the Ministry of Cultural Heritage and Activities, the Ministry of Health, the Institute of Health and the National Agency for Regional Health Services and it is hosted in five Italian regions: Lazio, Calabria, Campania, Piemonte and Lombardia.
From 6th to 11th of November 2018, the MArRC is the protagonist. The “hosts”, Riace Bronzes will be illuminated by a blue light to welcome guests in a series of health education information activities through art.
On Tuesday 6th and Wednesday 7 th, the appointment is in the morning, from 10.00 to 12.00, with students of schools. Dr. Silvana Caracciolo, a surgeon specializing in gynecology, obstetrics and pathological anatomy, will meet the students together with the archaeologist Maurizio Cannatà, an official at the MArRC, for a study of male anatomy through the artistic model of body perfection of the Riace Bronzes. They participate in the training event: the Liceo Scientifico “A. Volta “, the Liceo Classico ” T. Campanella “, the Liceo Scientifico ” L. Da Vinci “, the” Gulli “Magisterial Institute and the ” Piria ” Technical Institute.
On Friday, November 9 th, the MArRC will host an interesting round table on the theme of the campaign, with the title: “The prostate tumor: the new enemy of the third millennium. From prevention to therapy “from 5.00 to 6.30 pm, in place Paolo Orsi. The chairman is Professor Giuseppe Morgia, director of the Urological Clinic of the University of Catania.
According to data from the association, over 14 million Italians are at risk of prostatic diseases. In the last decade, the prostate cancer has become the most frequent tumor in the male population of Western Countries, in particular from 50 years of age. Prevention is essential to reduce mortality. Therefore, we need awareness from an early age. This is also culture. And the MArRC is #notonlybronzes.
